The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis is a high-impact finance leader responsible for delivering actionable insights through advanced modeling, strategic budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis. Reporting to the SVP, Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer, this role transforms complex financial and operational data into relevant, decision-ready information that supports the Senior Executive Team and enables informed long-term business decisions.
Key Responsibilities and Leadership areas:
Financial Analysis, Forecasting, & Reporting
- KPI Development and Monitoring: Establish, monitor, and refine key performance indicators aligned to the mutual insurance model, including profitability, productivity, loss ratio, and expense ratio trends.
- Integrated Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain robust financial models to project premiums, losses, surplus, and operating performance under varying economic and catastrophe scenarios.
- Lead and define financial forecasting process, ensuring alignment with corporate strategic priorities and enterprise objectives.
- Executive and Board Reporting: Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for the Senior Executive Team and Board of Directors, highlighting results, explaining variances, and recommending appropriate course corrections.
- Reporting Modernization: Drive the modernization of the Finance function by implementing data visualization, automation, and advanced BI/AI tools to accelerate reporting timelines and deliver predictive, strategic value.
Decision Support, Strategic Analysis, and Innovation
- Strategic Project Support: Provide financial analysis and oversight for major strategic initiatives, including technology implementations and other enterprise efforts.
- Investment and Expansion Analysis: Conduct modeling and scenario analysis to evaluate new technology investments, operational initiatives, and market opportunities.
- Innovation and Rating Alignment: Support the development of evaluation frameworks that ensure strategic initiatives align with financial objectives and broader rating agency (e.g., AM Best) capital adequacy and financial strength frameworks.
Enterprise Expense Management
- Expense Optimization: Identify, develop, and execute sophisticated approaches to reduce the company’s expense ratio and improve operating efficiency. Maintain a disciplined enterprise capability and reporting cadence around advanced expense management to support achievement of corporate goals.
- Strategic Cost Actions: Identify enterprise-wide opportunities to reduce expenses and actively support execution of agreed-upon cost containment strategies.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Team Development: Build, coach, and strengthen a high-performing FP&A team by setting clear expectations, developing analytical and business-partnering capabilities, and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence. Provide regular feedback, mentorship, and development opportunities that support team effectiveness, succession readiness, and individual career growth.
- Enterprise Partnership: Serve as a bridge between Finance and other functions by translating complex financial concepts into clear business insights for non-financial stakeholders.

- Collaboration and Influence: Ability to build strong partnerships across functions, influence senior leaders, and align stakeholders around key business decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
- MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- CPA, CFA, or FPAC designations preferred.
- Industry-specific certifications such as AIAF and CPCU are highly valued.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Finance, including dedicated FP&A or strategic finance responsibilities.
- 5+ years of leadership experience
- Experience in Insurance or financial services is strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of statutory accounting highly valued.
- Demonstrated experience managing, coaching, and developing direct reports, including setting performance expectations, providing feedback, and building team capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex financial modeling, and experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Familiarity with generative AI tools is preferred.
- The ability to connect accounting results to strategic planning and performance management required.

The salary range for the role is $130,000 to $175,000 per year paid on a salaried basis. The rate offered to any candidate will be reflective of the candidate’s experience and any relevant education, certification, or qualifications related to their ability to perform the responsibilities of this position as permitted by law.
